DESCRIPTION
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a video worth?Well, it could be worth a $1000 scholarship!
The Coalition for a Connected West (CCW) is sponsoring two one-time scholarships, each in the amount of $1000.
To enter participants have to submit a 15 - 90 second video about "Technology and Everyday Life" or any other topic of your choice for a chance to win a $1000 scholarship. See details below.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Create a 15 -90 second video about "technology and everyday life" or a topic of your choice. (Check out our FAQ for suggestions about the video.)
- Host the video online using a video sharing service such as YouTube, metacafe, or Yahoo! Video. (You must be able to share the video with the CCW.)
- Submit your video to the CCW via our online form. Deadline to submit your video is August 31, 2009 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. (click here to go to the form now.)
ELIGIBILITY
- Participation in this contest (defined as submitting a video) is open to everyone, regardless of the entrant's state of residence or whether the entrant is enrolled in an institution of higher education. Entrants under age 18 must have verification from their parent or guardian at the time of entry.
- After eligibility has been verified, CCW will announce the winners via the CCW website and newsletter.
- Entrants that do not meet the criteria for receipt of the scholarship award may designate a qualifying individual ("designated recipient") at the time of entry to receive the scholarship. In the event that an entrant who does not meet the criteria wins the contest, the scholarship will be awarded to the designated recipient.
- In order to receive the scholarship award, the recipient must be at least 18, at least a college level student AND either be a resident of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming; OR attend college in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming. (College includes: University, college, community college, vocational or trade school.)
- The scholarship recipient must be a degree seeking student enrolled at least part-time (carrying a minimum of 6 semester credit hours) for the fall 2009 semester.
- The recipient does not need to have filed a federal financial aid application to qualify.
- This is a one-time award.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
The CCW will award two (2) one thousand dollar ($1000) scholarships. One (1) scholarship will be awarded by a popular online vote conducted by the CCW as outlined below (Members' Choice Award). One (1) scholarship will awarded by the CCW Board of Directors as outlined below (Directors' Award). This is a competitive contest; therefore, submission of an application does not guarantee a scholarship award. Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the educational institution, as described above, for the benefit of a qualifying enrolled student age 18 or over.JUDGING
Members' Choice Award - On September 3, 2009 voting will begin on the CCW website. Voters can vote for their favorite video only once on the CCW website. Additional voting opportunities may be announced during the voting period that will allow for additional votes. (e.g. voting through Twitter or Facebook.) Attempts by voters to vote for a participant more than once in any given voting opportunity will not be counted in the vote results. Voter activity may be monitored for potential fraudulent activity. Voting for the Members’ Choice Awards will end on September 21, 2009 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.Directors' Award - The CCW Board of Directors, or its designee, will select the Directors' Award using the following criteria: 1/3 message, 1/3 originality, and 1/3 creativity. In the event of a tie the award will go to the submittal with the higher score in the message category.
DISBURSEMENT OF AWARD FUNDS
- CCW will notify winners via the email address provided in the contest entry form. Winners must present CCW with proof of scholarship eligibility within 10 days of notification. If the scholarship will be provided to a designated recipient, proof of eligibility must be provided within 15 days of notification.
- Within 30 days of receipt of proof of eligibility discussed above, scholarship awards will be sent directly to the scholarship recipient's educational institution to be applied against tuition and fees for the fall 2009 semester. In the event that award recipient's educational institution cannot collect funds directly, no award will be given. At no time will scholarships be paid to any individual.
- Scholarship recipients should contact the school's Financial Services Office to verify that the award has been properly credited to the recipient's account.
